Congratulations to Nicholas Simmons

Nicholas Simmons, a sophomore Chemistry major working in the lab of Professor Stephen Martin has been named as a 2007/2008 Beckman Scholar by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. Nicholas’ current research is focused on the transition metal catalysis of carbonylative cross-coupling of ortho, ortho-disubstituted arenes. He is a native of Austin and plans to plans to pursue graduate school.

The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation established the Beckman Scholars Program to help stimulate, encourage and support research activities in chemistry and biological sciences by exceptionally talented undergraduate students who have the capacity to become national leaders in their fields of endeavor.
