Congratulations to Dr. Liu

Professor Hung-wen (Ben) Liu has been awarded the 2008 Repligen Award in Chemistry of Biological Processes. This award will be presented to him at the 236th National ACS Meeting, August 17-21, 2008 in Philadelphia PA during an awards symposium in his honor.

Professor Liu's research focuses on the elucidation of the organic chemistry of biological reactions that are mechanistically unusual and physiologically important. He is presently working in three areas at the interface of chemistry and biology: the mechanisms of enzyme catalyses and mechanism-based design of inhibitors, the development of new antibiotics through metabolic pathway engineering, and protein function regulation through ADP-ribosylation.

The Repligen Award for Chemistry of Biological Processes was established in 1985 and consists of a silver medal and honorarium. Its purpose is to acknowledge and encourage outstanding contributions to the understanding of the chemistry of biological processes, with particular emphasis on structure, function, and mechanism. The Award is administered by the Division of Biological Chemistry of the American Chemical Society.
